Tamari Brings Bold Flavors, Tapas to Entice Cranberry-Area Diners

Posted on by Tamari

“Traditional Asian and Latin flavors work in harmony in small delights like Peking Duck Quesadillas and empanadas with lemongrass chicken. There also are unusual dishes like Beef Tongue Tacos. On the sushi menu, the lobster roll is a specialty maki accompanied by a side of mouthwateringly succulent lobster fritters.

‘Our customers come to Tamari to get things they can’t find anywhere else,” Chen said. “That’s what we pride ourselves on.’”

Tamari review in HelloPittsburgh

Posted on by Tamari

“Since its grand opening in the summer of 2009, Tamari Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville has established itself as one of the city’s best restaurants and is consistently honored as such in the yearly “best of” lists in the local press. Fusing delicious components of Latin and Asian cuisine, the menu at Tamari Pittsburgh features some of the most unique offerings in the city. Tamari presents a variety of exciting tapas creations, fresh maki and sashimi, and is home to the city’s only robata grill, which is a charcoal-fired hearth used in Japanese cooking.”

Post-Gazette – Best Dining: Top Dishes

“Tamari, Lawrenceville — Tasting Menu
A creative variation on a classic dish, the scallop tartar had an almost mousse-like texture, nicely complemented by the crisp, delicate mushroom chips. A Korean spicy sesame oil added flavor without totally overwhelming the sweetness of the scallops.”

CBS Pittsburgh – Best Outdoor Dining

Posted on by Tamari

“For Tamari, the dining awards just seem to keep piling up. For two years in a row, Pittsburgh Magazine rated it among their top 25 restaurants, while City Paper honored it in the same way in 2009. So you know you have to try this Asian-fusion place as soon as you can. The menu is extensive, featuring tons of seafood choices. They’ve got sushi, salmon and halibut all with a punch of Asian flair. And you definitely have to try their maki rolls, filled with a variety of different fishes and spices. Make sure you request a seat on their outdoor patio, which offers a great view of the city. Great food and a great ambience—Tamari really is a winner all around.”

“This two-floor Lawrenceville hot spot, winner of our “Best New Restaurant” award last year, remains a favorite as much for its vibrant Asian-inspired food and sushi as for its great cocktails and outdoor dining (in the front courtyard or on the second-floor deck).”

Tamari review in Pittsburgh Magazine

“There’s more to say but no room to write it. So go. The food just keeps getting better and better. On my last visit, the place was packed, upstairs and down. People were reveling over fancy street food at the bar, while others stood in line, waiting their turn. At one end of the bar, I noticed a young woman sitting with a glass of wine and reading a book, seemingly oblivious to the tumult. She fit right in, and this example of the successful mix-and-match of things here at an Asian/Latin sushi house is just one of many reasons I like Tamari.
